HOUT BAY & LLANDUDNO
HERITAGE TRUST

Hout Bay
Hout Bay is a beautiful valley to the South of the world renowned Table Mountain near the tip of Southern Africa. It is surrounded by the recently proclaimed Cape Peninsula National Park which stretches from Table Mountain in the North to Cape Point at its southern most tip better known as "The Cape of Good Hope".
The Cape Peninsula is at the heart of the smallest of the worlds five plant kingdoms but is the most diverse, having the greatest floral biodiversity of all.

About the Trust
The Trust was inaugurated in 1995 and was established to harness community participation in environmental issues which could not be addressed by Hout Bay's Ward infrastructure and the then emergent South Peninsula Municipality created as a result of the new political transformation of the country. We are grateful to the Hout Bay Museum for their support and encouragement and also that of the Lions Club and the Rotary Club of Hout Bay. Membership is open to all on payment of a modest entrance fee.

Our Recent Acheivements

To find out what we have achieved recently look at What's New and you will realise that the Trust has made great strides in heritage conservation through their "living heritage" projects.

Our Mission Statement

To promote and preserve our environmental and cultural heritage for present and future generations.

Our Focus

In Addition
We strive to make heritage issues fun! We want to conserve what is good for future generations and for the enjoyment of all. For example, our annual Cannon Race is a fun event which proves the point that re-living history can be an exciting cultural and social event to be shared by the entire community.

Our Logo
Our logo (On our Home Page) consists of a line drawing of Hout Bay's East Fort, first built by the French in 1782 and further developed by the British in 1796, protecting the entrance to Hout Bay. Silhouetted in the background is the imposing "Sentinel" mountain.
The drawing was done by the late Hugh Floyd, Architect and Town Planner who was a well known figure in the community. Hugh defended our heritage vigorously and his last work consisted of planning the upgrading of the breath-taking Atlantic Scenic Drive, which remains as a fitting tribute to his contribution to our community and the Cape Peninsula he loved

Our Philosophy
All residents of Hout Bay - whether residing in a millionaire's mansion or a humble shack - are privileged to live here by Gods good grace.

About This Site
This is a "no frills" site. We attempt to make it as compact as possible so that you can download the information quickly and regularly.

We have no commercial element and do not need gimmicks and glitzy home pages with animated junk - we'll leave all that stuff to those who are trying to impress the less well informed. However, we will try to keep the graphics to a minimum so that you get quick responses and we'll keep the informative text as up to date as possible.

Come and see us often!
